The remainder formed a part of the original County of Fayette created in 1837 and in existence until 1847.

) In addition to the ninety-nine counties to be found in Iowa today, there are several others which need to be dis- cussed in order to make our treatment of the boundary his- tory of Iowa counties complete.

A group of six counties formerly in existence have long since been blotted out.

Seven existing counties were created in temporary form and fall into a class by themselves.
